Complete Character Move Lists

Detailed move lists and strategies for all 12 fighters in Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition.

Ryu - The Wandering Warrior

A good, well-balanced fighter. If you want to kick a** and be able to get away in time so the opponent cannot return the favor, be Ryu.

Fireball QCF+P Ryu shoots a ball of fire across the screen. Apparently, all the Shotokans are gas-powered, seeing their fireballs are blue.
Golden Fireball QCF+P This only happens if you are pelting the opponent with fireballs. It is a little more damaging than the normal fireball.
Hurricane Kick QCB+K Ryu spins around with one foot out. It can be ducked.
Air Hurricane Kick (T) QCB+K in air A Hurricane Kick in air. 'Nuff said.
Dragon Punch FDD+P Ryu jumps into the air with a spinning uppercut. A good anti-air move. If done right, the HP version can do 3 hits.
Shoulder Throw PAO+MP or HP Ryu throws his opponent over his shoulder.
Kick Throw PAO+MK or HK Ryu grabs his opponent, gets under them, and kicks them away. Does good damage.
Axe Kick When close, HK He simply does a two-hit kick.

E. Honda - The Sumo Wrestler

At 304 pounds, this guy seriously needs to go on a diet. To make up for that, his LP Hundred Hand Slap can move forward and back.

Hundred Hand Slap Tap P repeatedly Honda slaps the opponent very, very, VERY quickly. Press F or B to move forward or backwards. WARNING: This move is a Shotokan trap. Don't use this if you are far away and the opponent has a projectile.
Head Butt CBF+P Honda flies head first at the opponent.
Super Sumo Press (T) CDU+K Flies up with a flipping MP motion, then down with a flipping LP motion. A good anti-air move.
Shoulder Throw PAO+MP Honda has his own Shoulder Throw, not unlike Ryu's.
Stomach Smash PAO+HP This hold makes Honda repeatedly smash the opponent against his stomach. It looks like Honda is hugging the opponent.
Knee Smash PAO+HK Honda grabs the opponent and smashes the opponent's head against his knee.
Double Kick HK when close A kick that does 2 hits.

Blanka - The Electric Beast

A bizarre creature, he has good jumping ability. His reach for his attacks is second only to Zangief (and of course to Dhalsim's stretchy arms).

Electricity Tap P repeatedly Blanka channels electricity through his skin. In the unlikely event that you should hit someone with it, it does fairly good damage. WARNING: This is another Shotokan trap.
Rolling Attack CBF+P Blanka rolls into a ball and flies towards the opponent. This move looks cool, and does good damage.
Vertical Rolling Attack (T) CDU+K He rolls into a ball, but instead of flying forward, he flies up, then crashes back down.
Double Bite PAO+MP Blanka bites the opponent two times in quick succession.
Head Bite PAO+HP Blanka grabs onto the opponent and repeatedly bites the opponent on the head.

Ken - The Flame of Justice

He is almost exactly like Ryu, except he is a little stronger and a little slower. Another kick a** fighter.

Fireball QCF+P Ken shoots a ball of fire across the screen. Apparently, all the Shotokans are gas-powered, seeing their fireballs are blue.
Golden Fireball QCF+P This only happens if you are pelting the opponent with fireballs. It is a little more damaging than the normal fireball.
Hurricane Kick QCB+K Ken spins around with one foot out. The HK version, if done right, can do 4 hits. It can be ducked.
Air Hurricane Kick (T) QCB+K in air A Hurricane Kick in air. 'Nuff said.
Dragon Punch FDD+P Ken jumps into the air with a spinning uppercut. A good anti-air move.
Rolling Kick Throw PAO+HK Ken grabs his opponent, gets under them, and rolls around with them a lot. Does very good damage if you manage to hit them with it.
Axe Kick When close, HK He simply does a two-hit kick.

Chun-Li - The Strongest Woman in the World

Chun-Li is FAST. Keep this in mind. Also, her kicks are a lot better than her punches.

Lightning Kick Tap K repeatedly Chun-Li kicks so fast it looks like a blur. WARNING: This is another Shotokan trap.
Whirlwind Kick CDU+K This is a Hurricane Kick, only upside-down.
Kikoden (T) HCF+P This is Chun-Li's version of the Fireball (although it looks a lot more like water).
Throw PAO+MP or HP Chun-Li grabs the opponent and throws him on the ground in front of her. This can be done in mid-air.
Backflip PAO+MK Chun-Li does a backflip that does 2 hits.
Air Flip PAO+HK Chun-Li flips over the opponent and then crashes back down, doing good damage.
Wall Bounce When in a corner UB, UF Chun-Li bounces off the wall behind her. Useful for getting out of corners.

Advanced Tips & Strategies

Master these advanced techniques to become a Street Fighter II champion.

πŸ›‘οΈ

Defensive Strategy

Try to block a lot if you are low on health and/or getting hit multiple times. Some special moves can leave you vulnerable to attack. Make sure there is a good chance of a hit connecting before you use it.

πŸ”„

Recovery Techniques

Wiggle the D-pad to get out of being dizzy faster. This can save you from taking additional damage when stunned.

⚑

Combo Creation

Try putting a combination of moves together. For instance, try this combo for Ryu/Ken: Flipping HK, Ducking HK. Experiment with different move sequences.

⚠️

Important Warning

You still take damage if you block a special move. Blocking reduces damage but doesn't eliminate it completely.

Fighting Tips & FAQ

How do I perform special moves?
Special moves require specific input sequences. For example, Hadoken is performed by pressing β†“β†˜β†’ + Punch. Practice the motions slowly at first, then gradually increase speed.
Which character should I start with?
Ryu is recommended for beginners due to his balanced stats and straightforward special moves. Once you master the basics, try other characters to find your preferred fighting style.
How important is blocking?
Blocking is essential for survival. Hold back or down-back to block high and low attacks respectively. Learn to block consistently before focusing on offense.
What's the best way to practice?
